Science Project

Dylan decided to do his science project on "How to Peel a Raw Egg". We had some fun experimenting with this. First we just did the egg by itself. We put the egg in a glass and covered it with vinegar and let it sit for a few days.

THIS IS DAY ONE...

THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE ON DAY 2 AND 3

AFTER A LITTLE RUBBING THE REST OF THE SOFTENED SHELL CAME OFF AND THIS IS THE END RESULT....

HERE IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE COMPARED TO THE UNTOUCHED EGG. IT SWELLS UP AND THE SHELL DISAPPEARS.

THEN WE PLAYED WITH IT A LITTLE MORE AND PUT IT IN CORN SYRUP OVERNIGHT AND THIS IS THE RESULT, IT SHRIVELED UP.

We also played some more and after we put it in the corn syrup and it shriveled up we then put it in water and blue food coloring and although I don't have a picture, it came up with an interesting result. It swelled back up and turned blue throughout the whole egg. Pretty cool! This is why we got the results we did with the corn syrup vs. water or vinegar; "After the shell is dissolved the egg is surrounded by a membrane that lets some molecules through while not letting others. Water moves through the membrane easily while bigger molecules like sugar will not pass through. But because the egg white is made up of 90% water and corn syrup is made up of only 25% water, the movement of water molecules causes them to move from the more abundant to the less abundant side of the membrane making the egg shrivel up. CONFUSED??

HERE IS DYLAN WITH HIS DISPLAY BOARD AT THE SCIENCE FAIR. I THINK HE DID A PRETTY GOOD JOB! IT WAS DEFINITELY INTERESTING.

Oooh, I might have to remember that one for next year. That is a fun idea. We need to start working on Madison's. We have been slackers and it is due in a few weeks!

How interesting, I didn't know you could peel a raw egg. How did you come up with it?

Rylee's 3!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RYLEE!!! My little guy is 3 now. The plan was to try and take Rylee to the zoo for his day but that didn't work out for this weekend anyway. So his birthday happened to fall on a day that was being celebrated by the whole town for Hayden Daze and we went to that instead. They jumped in the inflatables and Dylan got his face painted. Rylee just did not have the patience to stand in line long enough to get his done. What can you expect? He's only 3 :) They played on the slip and slides and Dylan got to do some rock climbing We had planned to have a little party for Rylee with some friends. But since they couldn't make it we decided to just make it fun with just our family. First Balloons!! And boy, did they have fun :) Rolling around in them, trying to pop them by squishing them in a big hug and we cant leave out the big bellies and boobs! Then he opened his presents, played with them and we ate cake! After all that fun we finished the night off with a funny...

It's Our 11th Anniversary!!

Oh my, does time fly. It's pretty weird to think that we have been married for 11 years. I don't think we feel old enough for that much time to have gone by, but we will continue to grow old and wrinkly together forever! Happy Anniversary to US!! Kirk and Camilla on our wedding day.... No we didn't have a big fancy wedding but we were there together and with our family and friends and enjoyed ourselves, that's all that matters! A couple more pic's of us together throughout the years.... 2002 Somewhere between 2003-2004 2007 2008

Indoor Playground

Who needs to play outside when the playgound is right here in the house! We have a couple mattresses that used to be for Dylan's bunkbed that have apparently turned into a slide and trampoline. I'm thinking this looks like alot of fun and I have been tempted to try it out for myself, but I'm pretty sure I would look alot less graceful then they do :) Don't mind the multicolored walls.....we ran out of paint in the middle of the job.
